Animal Collective – Fall Be Kind EP

This new EP, Fall Be Kind from Animal Collective is fantastic. I don’t know how to not love this band. My favorite part about Animal Collective is that they make you work for it. Most pop artists come out of the gates with their best hooks and their most catchy lines. That is fun but you lose interest quickly. Animal Collective buries the sugary pop goodness beneath reverb drenched samples and huge drum beats. With the track “What I would Want? Sky” there is about a 3 minute intro where you are hearing ambient noise and big drums… something is happening… tension is building… the song goes quiet… then you hear it… “…Sky… what would I want… sky… what would I want…sky… You immediately have a smile on your face as the guys in Animal Collective sing in rounds and harmonies reminiscent of the 60’s pop we wish we had all been a part of. I know I am a sucker for this, but this song really made my day, and I hope it makes yours too. Enjoy! |
