Emiliana Torrini – Gun

Emiliana Torrini Gun

This is quite a powerful song. Emiliana Torrini’s voice adds to the anger and emotion portrayed in the lyrics. The overall feeling is harsh and mystifying. My favorite part of the song is when she says “…yes this is a kiss that I swear will blow your mind,” it’s really disturbing. This track is one of many that I enjoy from Me and Armini. The album never gets old, and I find myself listening it to a lot.

Serena-Maneesh: D.I.W.S.W.T.T.D.

Serena Maneesh: D.I.W.S.W.T.T.D.

Norway’s own Serena-Maneesh provides us with some dark, dirty rock that’s a bit experimental. This track is short, but is packed with so much; while not being too complex. It may come of no surprise that the likes of musical genius’ such as Sufjan Stevens contributed to their debut album. I really enjoy the lead singer’s voice and am glad to hear vocals such as these emerging into the scene.

Four Tet – Sing

Four Tet Sing

This song takes a minute to listen to before really judging it. There is a slow buildup in the beginning, but it is worth the wait. The beats added are well placed, making for an excellent track. The album “There is Love in You” is highly recommended. For those of you that find this music is up your alley, Four Tet will be kicking off a U.S. tour in NY on Feb. 17th.

Cold Cave – The Laurels of Erotomania

Cold Cave The Laurels of Erotomania

I can’t believe I haven’t done a post about Cold Cave already. Their electronic sound is dirty and dark, making for a unique combination. Although, their album “Love Comes Close” has been out for a while (almost a year), they are finally starting to receive some recognition. They are kicking off a national tour in February, so if you like what you hear definitely check them out!

Pantha Du Prince – Satellite Sniper

Pantha Du Prince Satellite Sniper

Black Noise by Pantha Du Prince will be out on February 8th, 2010. Usually, I cannot get into all instrumental albums, but this one works very well. In fact, I almost think it would be strange to have vocals with this music. If you’re someone who enjoys listening to Air, Zero 7, and LCD Soundsystem, you will definitely like this stuff. This is a good debut album for Rough Trade Recordings; I did not find one track I had to skip over.

Grooveshark, Vampire Weekend – Run

Grooveshark, Vampire Weekend Run

Recently, I was at a party and someone was using grooveshark as the source for music. If you haven’t used it yet, this site is pretty awesome. It’s like twitter met pandora and had a lovechild that grew up to be better than both of them. This is just more evidence that pretty soon it’s going to be weird to own physical copies of music.

I also wanted to point out that the Vampire Weekend CD, is releasing in 4 days. There are listening parties happening all over the country, and I went to one last night in Chicago. “Run” is one of my favorite tracks. Overall, this album is easily going to be one of the best of 2010.

Metric – Collect Call

Metric Collect Call

Metric’s album “Fantasies” is definitely more upbeat than their older stuff. Although, this album was not my favorite by them, I enjoyed it a lot. Canadian singer, Emily Haines has a lot to offer. There were many tracks to be liked from this album including “Help I’m Alive,” but I feel “Collect Call” is a track that has remnants of the Metric I remember.
