Enjoy this raucous and powerful rock n’ roll from Scottish four piece Holy Esque. It has been a while since I have found a promising rock band from across the pond and if the track “Ladybird Love” is any indication, we have a lot to look forward to. The band takes a new wave punk sound with a vocal approach akin to that of Titus Andronicus. Stay tuned for the new self-titled EP due out April 23.

So much great music is coming out of Sweden as of late, and the minimalist techno producer Magnus Johansson is no exception. Creating sounds under the moniker Bam Spacey since 2007, the composer has shifted to vocal driven electronic composition in his latest release, lending to a surreal, optimistic soundscape, even if his single, “Vi Delar Samma Grav,” translates to “We Share the Same Grave.” The four-track single was released April 3rd, with an EP entitled, Land EP, scheduled for May 22nd, both via Ceremony.
Le Sheik Rhat is the latest from four-piece surf-pop rock outfit Naive Thieves, a stellar EP that somehow managed to dodge my radar for almost a year now. Great guitar licks, soft, tasty beats, and killer melodies are jam-packed into this six track EP, making for one heck of a listen. Swing over to their bandcamp to purchase a digital or hard copy.
Check out Magic Wands “Space”, the first single from their debut full-length “Aloha Moon”. Video was directed by Dexy Valentine of Magic Wands and John Charter. The video is very purple, and is reminiscent of those blurry photos angsty teens used to post on their MySpace profiles. Enjoy the dark brooding LA vibes…
I first noticed the Bristol, UK native Falcon Lake, aka Leon Piers, with his dark, hypnotic contribution to the great Night Tape put together by Life Crushed (still available for download here). The boy must have felt the Summer days coming since, because he released a much lighter yet equally mind-blowing “Drown” EP via Bad Panda Records a month ago. 90’s-inspired and seriously dreamy, this impeccable collection of “emotive bass” sounds and luscious guitars definitely has what it takes to get you into a pretty atmospheric Spring vibe. Watch out for more from Falcon Lake on Glyph Recordings soon.

Here’s some sweet jazzy underground beats to get you through your Monday blues. Henry Smithson, aka Riton, lays down some great downtempo tunes, mixing synthesized p-h fat beats alongside old school jazz vocals on “Put That On My Momma” from his 2001 LP Beats Du Jour. If downtempo isn’t your thing, he seems to be on an 80s dance kick as of late. Check out some of his latest tunes on his website Riton Time.
