Elvis Depressedly – Hotter Sadness

Elvis Depressedly Hotter Sadness

It seems a cure for Matt Cothran’s unfathomable sadness remains to be found. The multi-instrumentalist behind Coma Cinema and it’s slightly lower-fidelity doppelganger, Elvis Depressedly, has released yet another fantastic, beautiful, and overwhelming melancholy record; fittingly named, “Hotter Sadness,” under his Elvis Depressedly (and depressing it is…) title. Whilst the classic Cothran sound seen on his previous records is still retained to an extent, gone is the depth of sound created by a full array of instrumentation, but in its place is a depth granted by a fuzzier (recording was accomplished through the medium of a vintage tape recorder), more stripped down, and considerably lonelier sound. With the longest track 3:21 and the average length being about a minute and a half, some Cothran fans may feel cheated by the 8 track, 14 minute record.

However, the utter simplicity of sound and structure, thought-provoking lyrics, and synth lines that are allowed to stand out amongst guitar, drums, and bass; such length is as fitting as the title. As has been stated by Cothran himself, he, “Get[s] in, play[s] the best part, get[s] out and move[s] on,” and does so with a great deal of success. Bury yourself in an alternate dimension of gloom with Elvis Depressedly’s latest record, available for however much you wish, right here.
