Every once in a while a cover comes along that reminds us of a truly great song. So newdust gives a nod to Portland’s John Heart Jackie, who bravely covered “When You Were Mine” from the classic 1980 Prince album “Dirty Mind“. The lyrics to this song are inherently sad and full of regret, which furthers the juxtaposition of the mello-dramatic cover with the upbeat Prince classic. (And of course somewhere in between is Cyndi Lauper’s version.) Enjoy, and catch John Heart Jackie in DC this Sunday, July 22 at The Velvet Lounge.
