Prince Rama – “So Destroyed”

Prince Rama So Destroyed

Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, off of the much esteemed Paw Tracks label (known for releasing that one band Animal Collective), experimental/psychedelic duo Prince Rama have failed to disappoint with their newly released “So Destroyed”. Part of the radical concept album, Top Ten Hits of the End of the World, “So Destroyed” gives us a look at Rage Peace, one of 10 invented bands once popular before an imaginary, anachronistic apocalypse. It’s a strange, yet enthralling concept: some years back the world underwent an apocalypse, and accompanying the destruction of the world was the destruction of 10 great artists. Fortunately for us, their spirits have been channeled through the bodies of Prince Rama to deliver one track each. Just like the concept itself, the single “So Destroyed” has the qualities of being strange, enthralling, and additionally, quite beautiful.

Blanketed in hazy distortion, a melody and beat with tribal vibes (most evident during the bridge), and ethereal, almost eerie synth, “So Destroyed” is lo-fi synthpop at its finest. Perhaps the greatest moment of the track is its conclusion, in which a variety of distorted synth lines, driving tribal chants, and animalistic howling blend together before quickly fading. Groove to “So Destroyed”, and prepare to be eagerly awaiting the rest of the record, scheduled for release on November 6.
