“Cool” Christmas music is tough to find. Lucky for us there are actually some fresh tunes out there this year. Check out the Atlas Sound (aka Bradford Cox of Deerhunter) XMAS song “Arificial Snow”. Cox is the only musician I can think of who can talk about electroshock therapy in a Christmas song. You can get all five versions of the song here. CHRISTMAS!

I went to the Atlas Sound show last night at the Black Cat here in DC. The sound was great, the beer was flowing, and both The Selmanaires and Broadcast put on stellar live show. Although, Broadcast was not my thing, they had an interesting set with some pretty powerful and mesmerizing visuals backing them up. Bradford Cox and company (Atlas Sound) played laid back reverb drenched versions of tracks off Let the Blind… and Logos. The summer single/leak “Walkabout” feat Panda Bear, was probably my favorite of the evening. I spent most of the show trying very hard not to break the hipster code and sing along. I put a track from Atlas Sound’s new album Logos as well as a a fantastic cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Walk a Thin Line” from 1979’s Tusk. Great tour, great bands, check it out.

“Walkabout” is a collaboration between Atlas Sound (Bradford Cox) & Panda Bear (Noah Lennox of Animal Collective.) |

This is a follow up to my July 11th post, “Atlas Sound’s New Album Logos.” Logos will be Bradford Cox’s 2nd release as Atlas Sound, set to release October 19th, on 4AD Recordings. “Walkabout,” a song featured on this album, is fantastic. If you’re a fan of anything Bradford Cox has done in the past, or if you loved Panda Bear’s 2007 release Person Pitch, this song has got your name written all over it. I love the lyrics, “What did you want to see? / What did you want to be when you grew up?”
Here’s the tracklist for Logos :
‘The Light That Failed’
‘An Orchid’
‘Walkabout’ ft. Noah Lennox (Panda Bear)
‘Criminals’
‘Attic Lights’
‘Sheila’
‘Quick Canal’ ft. Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab)
‘My Halo’
‘Kid Climax’
‘Washington School’
‘Logos’ |

Album: Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel |
4AD Records announced yesterday that Atlas Sound, Bradford Cox’s solo project, is set to release a second album Logos on October 19th following the debut Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel. |
| Atlas Sound, Cox’s solo project, is a lot more ambient than Deerhunter, his 5-piece band, which had more upbeat songs, where Cox sang a bit deeper. He has such a beautifully haunting voice; it’s very calming & surreal, almost hypnotizing. For Logos, Cox has collaborated with other musicians in his songwriting. 4AD mentions that Logos includes a song titled “Walkabout” that Cox wrote with Noah Lennox, aka Panda Bear, while he was on tour with Animal Collective in Europe. Laetitia Sadler from Stereolab provides vocals in another track, “Quick Canal.” Supposedly there are some demos and mixtapes of Cox’s new work that leaked out from his blog, but for now I’ll just share with you one of my favorites from Let The Blind… |
