Black Noise by Pantha Du Prince will be out on February 8th, 2010. Usually, I cannot get into all instrumental albums, but this one works very well. In fact, I almost think it would be strange to have vocals with this music. If you’re someone who enjoys listening to Air, Zero 7, and LCD Soundsystem, you will definitely like this stuff. This is a good debut album for Rough Trade Recordings; I did not find one track I had to skip over.

I just recently got heavy into Dayve Hawk’s work, aka Memory Tapes. His latest album is a slightly dark, dancy-electronic delight titled Seek Magic, released in very limited quantities back in September as an LP. I hopped over to his blog just the other day and grabbed the mp3s from his Graphics single, released November 10th. The single has an edited “Graphics” track on it, and an instrumental track titled “Easy Pert Mom.” If you get a chance, pick up a copy of Seek Magic, it’s fantastic!

I have been a big fan of Phoenix since United came out back in 2000. Their new album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is a great pop record. I feel like this band has been written about quite alot so I will leave you to enjoy these two totally rad videos, “Lisztomania” and “1901″. (And they are French, so how cool is that?)
Denton, TX’s short lived Ghosthustler gave us a tasty blend of disco, post-punk, & synth-pop. Though they’ve parted ways, their monster bass licks and 80’s montage keytar lines will live on forever in the Wide World of Web.
Alan Palomo, the mastermind behind Ghosthustler, has since moved on & formed Vega, and has proven that anything he touches is neon-tastic gold. What I enjoyed most about Ghosthustler’s tunes (other than its 80s-esque dancy perfection) were the unbelievably sick bass lines of Gray Gideon. When performing live Gideon played keys, and for a short time Ghosthustler brought in Shane English to play bass. English has been in other local TX bands such as the noisy, experimental pop punk trio The Undoing Of David Wright, and in another three-piece, the incredibly fast-paced punk band White Telephone, who I was fortunate enough to see in 2004 at, of all places, a high school talent show. With Gideon’s bass lines and Palomo’s catchy, 80s-fresh melodies, Ghosthustler calls for one hell of a dance party. Check out the live footage of “Parking Lot Nights,” another one of my favorite Ghosthustler tunes.
