What once was Nima Kazerouni’s solo project, with a live ensemble consisting of himself and television sets displaying prerecorded tracks stacked on top of each other, So Many Wizards has now blossomed into an ethereal, whimsical, bedroom-pop three piece. So Many Wizards are set to release the “Inner City / Best Friends” 7-inch on a limited edition 70 gram colored vinyl pressing June 28th. Check out the a-side! Pre-order here!
Ever since I heard “Youth” by Beach Fossils, I’ve had sudden and usually unexplained urges to hear that fuzzy, lo-fi, dream-pop sound that just about defined my 2010 summer. Seapony was one of those bands that provided the fix, and their debut full-length Go With Me is set to hit the streets May 31st, just in time for summer. Check out the first single, “Blue Star,” and swing by Hardly Art’s website to see their upcoming tour dates.

I’ve got some more Portland love to share with you all this week. First, meet Blouse, an up-and-coming Portland-based dream pop trio that just signed onto the fabulous Brooklyn label Captured Tracks (hooray!), and now meet Wooden Lens, a crazy-talented group of Portland videographers who create brilliant unofficial music video from found and stock footage. Scenes pulled from Léos Carax’s 1991 film les amants du Pont-Neuf comprise the video for Blouse’s first single (and A-side to the band’s debut 7″) and depict vibrant fireworks, strobe lights, and an eccentric, one-eyed Juliette Binoche that fit the music beautifully.
We get a ton of emails daily from musicians. Every now and then I’ll skim through the last couple month’s worth of emails in my inbox to see if I missed anything good. Here’s a terrific indie pop band from my inbox that I skipped over: Los Angeles based Young Hunting, with their two-track self-titled 7″. With Beach Boys harmonies and lush, warm melodies, this 7″ is a great intro to what’s sure to come in the near future from these guys. Here’s my favorite of the two tracks:

Austin, TX has been spitting out some great folk artists onto the scene this past year (our good friends Marmalakes being one of them). Miles Kelley’s (aka Milezo) Ghostwalking EP serves as yet another fantastic example of the flourishing hazy-, dreamy-, folk-pop movement. The 10-track EP is loaded with catchy little folk tunes and exceptional ambient tracks that pull it all together for a great listen from start to finish.
He’s also got an excellent ambient, noise-track EP, Forêt (remix.ep), for your listening/downloading pleasure on his bandcamp page.

I’m writing this in between my parasitology and A&P lectures, so it’s short and sweet. Exact Index fits in with the many bands in the-genre-of-many-names (aka chillwave/chillpop/etc.). I’ll let the music speak for itself, I find it worth listening to, unlike a lot of the tunes in this genre that just get lost among the rest of them.

Seapony emerged onto the music scene just a couple months ago, and have just as quickly proven to the blogosphere that they’re actually worth remembering. With its nostalgic girl-pop-surf sound, it’s kind of hard not to enjoy their latest single “Dreaming”, the title track off their new 3-track 7″ set to release on Novermber 15th. Swing by the Double Denim Records website to pre-order your copy of Seapony’s Dreaming 7″ now, as it is limited to only 300 copies worldwide.
