I dug through my old emails today to find this sweet gem of an EP from Portland, OR’s Yeah Great Fine. These guys are equal parts electronica, pop, & punk, with infectious harmonies & melodies, and some damn fine drum work. Here are my two favorites from the album, “O O O” & “Patterns.” Download the album from Bandcamp now!

Solar Bears‘ latest album She Was Coloured In is the perfect cross-section of a wide range of instrumental music, ranging from minimalism to disco-electronica without skipping a beat or losing continuity. I was instantly reminded of the soundtrack to the 1973 animated science fiction masterpiece Fantastic Planet, of which I was not surprised at all to see that Solar Bears actually used footage from the film for one of their music videos. This album is a really solid listen-through from start to finish, and if only I had listened a couple weeks earlier this album would have made it onto our Top 10 list without question. Also highly recommended if you’re a fan of Casino Versus Japan’s debut self-titled.

I can’t leave you hangin’: We showed you parts I and II last week to Russ Chimes’ Midnight Club EP 3-Part Video Series, showcasing three songs from the new EP in a three part short film that is a tale of love, loss and retribution (directed by Saman Keshavarz). Here’s the epic finale, and after hearing these three songs, I can’t wait to hear the rest of this EP!
Bedroom Girls is The Delfields‘ second full length album (out Sept. 30th), a collection of simple tunes with sounds that span decades of jangle pop, psychedelia, and electronica. Every song on the album is named after a girl; a girl who in one way or another has had a profound (not necessarily romantic) influence on a member of the group. The album is presented as a series of dreams, with the first song marking the descent into sleep and the final song being the dream that one has just as one is beginning to wake up. here’s my favorite: “Julie Jupiter.”

Here’s a little diddy off Little Eichmanns‘ latest, Hologram. I hear a little Animal Collective in this song, but it’s not enough that would cause me to classify it as one of the many imitators that have come and gone since Merriweather was bestowed upon us. That’s a good thing by the way. I also hear a hint of Beck in the vocals of this album, but maybe that’s just me. Swing by Little Eichmanns’ bandcamp page to listen to and download the rest of the album for free.
