Russ Chimes – Midnight Club EP 3-Part Video Series

It’s Electric Saturday, so I thought I’d share some synthed-out tunes with you. This is pretty freakin sweet: Russ Chimes is releasing his debut EP Midnight Club in October. With help from director Saman Keshavarz (who we’ve posted on before with the video for Cinnamon Chaser’s “Luv Deluxe”), he’s showcasing three songs from the new ep in a three part short film that is a tale of love, loss and retribution. Here are parts one and two, part three happens next week.

Slandercat – Blood Of A Broom Tree EP

It’s an electronic world out there my friends. Feel free to quote me on that. And it’s tough to find an electronic artist worth shedding light on in such a world as this. Slandercat, however, has an extremely organic feel that my cochleas find very refreshing. Electronic? Yes, but not in the ever popular beach-pop, chill-wave, chill-pop, beach-wave way that, quite frankly, I’ve had almost all that I can take of. Pick up their EP Blood of a Broom Tree for free on bandcamp.

Stunts – “Felt”

I just can’t get enough of the massive amounts of lo-fi, fuzzy, summer, beach-pop tunes that have emerged into the music scene over the past year. You’d think that it would’ve been beaten to death by now, but I’m continuing to come across bands of this genre that stand out. Here’s one of them: this is ATX’s Stunts, and their charming little ep is up for grabs here on their bandcamp page. “Felt” is my personal favorite. I love the intro to this song and all the seemingly organic electronic elements that show up throughout the tune.

White Arrows – “Coming or Going”

“Coming or Going” is the quintessential White Arrows track, a mix of pure rock and sandy, sunny good vibes. Their debut EP, Hearts & Lungs, is set for a late August release. This oughta be good!

Local Natives – “Who Knows, Who Cares” (Superhumanoids Remix)

Superhumanoids are set to release one hell of a debut ep, Urgency, next week on Oh! Inverted World Records. These guys aren’t just a solid band with a solid ep under their belts, though. They’re also quite the remixers. Here’s an awesome remix they’ve done of Local Native’s “Who Knows, Who Cares.”

Hypermagic – “Window Rat Sundae”

Here at Newdust we’re big fans of the ambient & downtempo genres. A while back we did a post on Hypermagic’s self-titled 3-track ep. With his latest, Tangerine Scene, Hypermagic has done it again with another well-crafted & polished 3-track ep of downtempo, shoegazy goodness. Here’s my favorite, “Window Rat Sundae.”

Her Magic Wand – Catch A Rainbow EP

Just discovered Her Magic Wand a few days ago, and I’m really diggin his latest EP, Catch A Rainbow. Really ethereal, indie-pop that makes you feel like you’re floating in the clouds. Probably why he named it Catch A Rainbow. Head on over to his bandcamp page to stream the entire album and purchase it if you feel so inclined. “Mistakes” can be downloaded for free by typing in “0″ in the price field. Enjoy!

RAC – VOL 1.5

The Remix Artist Collective (RAC) are three guys based separately out of PortugalNew York and The Netherlands who seem to be on a mission to take your average, everyday Pitchfork-darling bands and spice them up a little, make them more fun, exciting and ready to be danced to by you and your too-thin hipster friends. Instead of the usual remixes you can easily find all over the internets by French dudes in their fancy studios (ahem – Thin White Duke – ahem) using Garageband to create some gawd-awful milquetoast remix of The Killers “Human” (Now with more reverb!), RAC takes something from Ra Ra Riot, U2, Teagan and Sara or The Gossip and adds their own sweet synth beats (among other things) with the blessing of the original artists themselves. The “collective” will work on tracks separately or together, sending them through cyberspace to each other to work on until they’re perfect. They last released a little four-track ep in December ‘09, but another is promised soon, and when you get tired of the ep, check out their older work, all available to download for HERE.
