This new video from Brooklyn experimental electronic/punk trio Black Dice is just as colorful and schizophrenic as the track it illustrates. “Pigs” is the first single off the threesome’s forthcoming release, Mr. Impossible, which is slated for a April 10 US release and April 9 international release via Ribbon Music.
This one’s for all you Arnold Schwarzenegger fans out there. Apparently, the guys of Gauntlet Hair collect Arnold movies on VHS, and decided to use iconic footage from a variety of his films to create the video for “Top Bunk,” their latest single off their acclaimed self-titled debut record. Just like the films it came from, this video is both awesome and completely ridiculous. Enjoy!
I just cannot get enough of Gauntlet Hair ever since I saw them at Los Angeles’ The Echo last week. The Denver-based noise rock quartet is just crazy enough to keep things interesting, but just accessible enough to hook you. The same can be said for the quartet’s latest video for “Keep Time,” the first single off the foursome’s recently released debut self-titled album. This eerie, ghoulish video was directed and produced by Bernardo Pantoja and Skyler Stevenson of Wooden Lens and was shot in the industrial district of Portland (which is one of the many reasons why I love it so much). If you have yet to see Gauntlet Hair perform, do yourself a favor and go to a show. They are currently touring with Unknown Mortal Orchestra. You can find tour dates here.
A while back I shared some great tracks from Jape (Richie Egan from Redneck Manifesto. At the time his songs were carrying their own weight just fine. Now, we’ve got a terrific full-length album to back them up! Everything that I loved about those first two Jape songs I heard last May bleeds through beautifully throughout this beautifully dark, moody, experimental new release. Here’s “The Oldest Mind” from his upcoming September full-length, Ocean of Frequency.
Although Amor Ad Nauseum has been around in one form or another since 2006, what once was Bud Wilson’s bedroom project got its bearings in 2008, when the Portland-via-Eugene, Oregon songwriter added two more musicians to his band. With accompaniment, Wilson’s brainchild manifested into multi-faceted instrumentation drenched in reverb, uniting folk guitar plucking and warbling vocals with synthetic bursts of sound. Aan’s latest 7″ (that was released yesterday!), Somewhere’s Sunshine, gives its listeners both sides of the trio’s sound, starting with the digressive, pop-turned-ambient A-side, “Haunted, Million Ways,” and ending with the funky, soulful title track as its B-side. You can purchase a physical or digital copy of the EP here.

Young Magic is the brainchild of a mysterious Aussie native by the name of Isaac (your guess on his last name is as good as mine), his portable studio, and his friends. Recently signed to Carpark Records, the now New York resident is prepping his first single, You With Air / Sparkly, set for a February 8 release date. The synthetic electro tunes were recorded in a six-month period and span the corners of the globe, from old spy bases in Berlin to empty rooms in Iceland and playgrounds in Melbourne. If old Isaac’s debut LP sounds anything like this single, Young Magic will without a doubt be a name to look out for in 2011.

Woodsman is an experimental ambient post-psych band based in Denver, CO. They’ve got this great 70s-psychedelic jam band groove. These guys are touring with Gauntlet Hair over the next couple weeks and I wish I could make it out to see them, it’s gonna be one hell of a show! Here’s “Insects” from their upcoming Lefse Records release, Rare Forms, due out January 25th. You can also grab the 7″ single here.
