The vibe at 619 Pearl St. on July 25th could not have been more laid back or chill (as was perfectly stated on Josh’s t-shirt). We all hung out in the backyard sipping on our ice cold beers and munching on hot dogs until a heavy downpour brought us indoors. And then there was music. Our friends Marmalakes & Mont Lyons both put on fantastic shows! Shout out to all those who came to hang out with us to mark our first year in the blogosphere! Cheers! PS: If anyone has more video or pictures of the event let me know and I will post it. |

Brooklyn-based Buke & Gass (pronounced byook & gace) are Arone Dyer on the “buke” (a self-modified six-string former baritone ukulele) and Aron Sanchez on the “gass” (a guitar-bass hybrid of his own creation). The song “Medulla Oblongata” is short and sweet, and will keep you on your toes. It’s amazing how much noise and rhythm can come from a just 2-piece. Their forthcoming self-produced full-length, Riposte, is set for release on September 14th on Brassland. |

This is it folks. The first official iPhone 4 music video. Director Marty Martin, with the help of musician Steve Failows (aka Flakjakt), collaborated over a period of less than a week to create it. In 2 days Failows wrote a new track specifically for this video and they loosely conceptualized for those 2 days in an effort to be first out of the gates with an iPhone 4 music vid. Great video, and a fantastic song! Download it on bandcamp.

I’ve only heard a couple songs from the upcoming Breathe Owl Breathe album Magic Central, and I couldn’t be more intrigued. This trio live and work in a Lincoln Log cabin in deep rural Michigan, where these songs were written and recorded, born out of their experiences living there. Magic Central is set to release 9/28 on Hometapes. I’m really diggin’ this one, “Swimming.” |

It’s pretty hard not to like Secret Cities‘ Pink Graffiti. And it’s also pretty hard to put a genre label on it (acoustic-electro-folk-dream-pop?). It is certainly experimental and psychedelic, taking almost every sound imaginable and blending it into one super genre. The album is said to be about Brian Wilson and young people. Or to be more exact, “It’s about Brian Wilson and his work as a prism through which we view youthful things.” Definitely an interesting platform to jump from, and I think they did a tremendous job. You can’t go wrong with Brian Wilson is what this basically boils down to. |

| I’m really diggin’ this EP. Wonder Winds is Marmalakes first release and it’s jam packed with lively & catchy folk-pop tunes. From track 1 to the last, the EP grabs your attention and keeps it warm and snug throughout its short and sweet 23 minute run time. Hear the entire EP here, then head over to the Cactus Cafe in Austin on July 9th to check out their EP release show. Here’s my favorite off the EP, “Ode To Johnnie Martin.” |

Philadelphia’s relatively unheard of Grubby Little Hands have released their debut album Imaginary Friends, and have released a couple videos to accompany it. Here’s the video for “Feel In My Back”, and you can check out the video for “Twelve Tones, Two Windows” by clicking here. Show them some love and swing by their Virb page to check out the rest of the album. |

Mont Lyons has been toying with us in regards to the release of their EP Sleeptalk. Well good news… the EP is finally out and you can get it on iTunes here. Here at newdust we are huge fans of Mont Lyon’s haunting vocals, eerie harmonies, and pop hooks. Enjoy “Company” and check out more songs about ghosts here. Nice work guys! |
