Nurses – “Trying To Reach You”

Nurses Trying To Reach You

As a native Portlander, I have a proclivity to its music scene; it’s in my blood, and nothing excites me more than sharing some of the amazing tunes that are coming out of my fair city with all of you. That being said, here is “Trying To Reach You,” the second single off avant-pop threesome Nurses’ September 20 release, Dracula. The track demonstrates the band’s knack for meshing funk, psychedelics, rhythm and haunting vocal layers, while holding on to pop dynamics. Just like with the trio’s 2009 release, Apple’s Acre, I am giddy to get my hands on this LP.

Toro Y Moi – “New Beat”

Toro Y Moi New Beat

Check out yet another super-groovy track from Toro Y Moi’s upcoming album “Underneath the Pine”. Chazzy bro has obviously moved on from riding those chill-waves to riding that auto-wah ~ ~ ~ Innervisions style.

Star Slinger – Remedy

Star Slinger Remedy

UK producer Star Slinger has been popping everywhere these months, from reworking The Cocteau Twins and remixing Small Black, Deerhunter and Broken Social Scene, to a collaboration (and personal favorite) with Teams for the track “Close To Me”. The man must never sleep, because he’s also releasing a bunch of original work.  ”Remedy” is the  latest track off a 7″ split (via Double Denim Records) between him and Hard Mix.  If you’re into dreamy hip-hop, glofi and ambient soul, it will make up for the long wait until the February release.  In the meantime, you can enjoy more Star Slinger and grab most of his tracks for free here.

Toro Y Moi – Underneath The Pine

Toro Y Moi Underneath The Pine

Chaz Bundick (aka Toro Y Moi) has been a much buzzed about artist in the blogosphere ever since our ears first heard his debut release Causers Of This earlier this year. Along with Washed Out, he helped create the chillwave that conquered the airwaves time and time again last summer. Now he’s back at it again with his second full-length album, Underneath The Pine. It’s got that trademark sound that we’ve come to expect from him, only this time it’s done with

live instrumentation that provides a much more authentic and genuine sound. Check out the first single, “Still Sound,” and pickup your copy of the album when it hits the streets February 22nd.

French Horn Rebellion – “This Moment”

French Horn Rebellion This Moment

Back when Newdust was just a wee lad, we did a post with a song off French Horn Rebellions’ Beaches and Friends EP. On November 15th, they’re releasing their debut full length, The Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion, a genre-bender of dance, electro, rock, and funk. Here’s their first single “This Moment.” This album’s going to be great!

Emil & Friends – Downed Economy 7″

Emil & Friends Downed Economy 7 Emil & Friends Downed Economy 7

I have a sweet 7 inch recommendation for everyone.  The funky Sly and The Family Stone-esque tunes of Emil & Friends!  I don’t really know much about the band, but their music is really easy to love.  The sweet beats are only enhanced by the catchy vocals and tongue-in-lyrics about making rent and making tapes.  The single was released last September and you can get it in the UK at Transparent (I think it is sold out but free for download) and in the US over at Leftist Nautical Antiques.  Enjoy!

Thanks to Landon of Fergus and Geronimo (also on Transparent and LNA) for the find!
