newdust presents: Loose Lips Happily Doomed (Brothertiger Remix)

Newdust is happy to present our first exclusive remix.  We were lucky enough to have Brothertiger remix a track off of Loose Lips new EP Lower Your Expectations And Be Happy and we have been riding ~~~~~~~~ chillwaves ever since.  Obviously we are biased in this endeavor so I will let the music speak for itself.  Enjoy!

ATTN DC: Go see Loose Lips play with Detox Retox for a dual EP release party this Saturday June 19th at Black Cat.

Phil Lynott – Yellow Pearl

Phil Lynott Yellow Pearl

I went with some buddies to a huge vinyl/record fair at the Black Cat here in DC.  Very crowded but very worth it.  Geologist of Animal Collective DJed part of the event and he was playing some great stuff and several tracks caught my ear. So much so that I went and bothered him for a few moments to try and get the details of his playlist.  He was more then happy to share and one of my favorite takeaways was this song from Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy.  Yeah… what???  The track is off his solo record Solo in Soho. Enjoy!

The Cars – “Heartbeat City” & “Drive” Live Aid 1985

I’ve been a big fan of The Cars as far back as I can remember. I’ve been watching a lot of their older live performances lately, and stumbled across a handful of videos from their ‘85 performance @ JFK Stadium for the first of many Live Aid concert series. The Cars had (and still have) such a huge influence on new wave & electronic music. Here are my two favorites from the performance, “Heartbeat City” & “Drive.” Hope you enjoy ‘em!

Wild Beasts – Two Dancers

Wild Beasts Two Dancers
Wild Beasts Two DancersIt’s hard to describe Wild Beasts. I just can’t quite put my finger on their sound. Their sophomore release, set to hit the shelves here in the States September 8th, is an extremely captivating album. Hayden Thorpe’s voice, in all its falsetto glory, soars like a well-crafted paper airplane. Listen to this album when you’ve got at least 4 hours with nothing to do; chances are, you’ll want to listen to it again and again…and again.

Two Dancers is an album I could see Shakespeare totally getting into. The lyrics are very dramatic & dark, with equally engaging & beautiful instrumentals. The songs are quite theatrical, I can just see lead singer/songwriter Hayden Thorpe holding a human skull & serenading it in song. The music itself has a very unique sound: the precise drumming of Chris Talbot has somewhat of a tribal feel to it that’s accompanied by very quiet (for the most part), resonating bass & guitar lines that work together to create complex rhythms. There are a lot of great instrumental break downs throughout the album. Two Dancers is a lot to take in with just one listen, it’s got quite a few jaw-dropping moments. “The Fun Powder Plot” is track one from Two Dancers, definitely a great song to set the mood for the rest of the album. Also, here is a great video for “Hooting & Howling,” which just happens to be track two:
