Le Sheik Rhat is the latest from four-piece surf-pop rock outfit Naive Thieves, a stellar EP that somehow managed to dodge my radar for almost a year now. Great guitar licks, soft, tasty beats, and killer melodies are jam-packed into this six track EP, making for one heck of a listen. Swing over to their bandcamp to purchase a digital or hard copy.
Chamber-pop folk quartet Seashell Radio releases a light-hearted music video for “Bromide,” a song from their 2010 release What Do You Have Against Happiness? The band takes us through a bachelor’s daily routine as he prepares for a date that, unfortunately, doesn’t work out for him in the end. The video has a sweet little “closing credits” bonus song, too.
I have a confession to make. I’m in love with Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe. And by I, I mean more specifically my ears, and by Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe, I mean more specifically the music they make. This post goes out to Øye & Bøe, and to the music they’ve made pre- and post-Kings of Convenience. Their long history (back to grade school) is news to me. I was unaware up until about ten minutes ago that they were in a rock group called Skog (which is Norwegian for “forest”) back in the mid ’90s, consisting of the duo plus Anders Waage Nilsen & Øystein Gjærder Bruvik. I was intrigued, and found their entire freshman (and only) release Tom Tids Tale streaming on the KOC Appreciation Page. They split after the release, and later joined back in 1999 as Kings of Convenience to create soft, acoustic, piano-heavy folk-pop. But in between KOC records, Øye has been rockin’ it with The Whitest Boy Alive & Bøe reunited with Nilsen & Bruvik as the trio Kommode. So before this post becomes a novel, here are three fantastic tracks from Skog, Kommode, & The Whites Boy Alive.

Check out the very surreal video for Yip Deciever’s bangin’ single “Get Strict”. I have been HUGE fans of these guys since seeing them live in DC back in January. (Read my review of the show here.) The band is made up of Davey Pierce and Nicholas Dobbratz, both members of Of Montreal. Grab their EP here and pay attention, because these guys are destined for top 40.

Happy Hump Day, everyone! For any of you who are stuck in a cubicle right now, I hope this video from Cambridge, MA’s You Won’t gives you a chuckle. I heard this track for the first time last week, and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. The indie-pop duo released its debut LP, Skeptic Goodbye, yesterday via Old Flame Records. The album is available for stream or digital purchase here.
