Wavves decided to start summer a little early this year with their latest video for “King Of The Beach.” This video is the perfect salute to the summer afternoon when there’s nothing better to do but hit the streets and soak in the rays. Sort of reminds me of Smith Westerns “Weekend” video. “King Of The Beach” is the title track off their latest release on Fat Possum Records, which you can pick up on vinyl, CD, or digital here. The countdown to summer begins.
Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, Big Wave Riders are poised to make a pretty big splash on the scene with their almost instantly likeable and relatable sound. With a mix of indie punk and 80’s new wave, their latest single “It’s Funny Things Aren’t Gonna Change” is pretty hard not to like.
Swing by their Soundcloud page to check out the rest of their songs and stay posted on the band’s future endeavors, which I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about.

In the true spirit of Christmas (partying) check out Deer Tick’s very rock n’ roll tune, “Christmas All Summer Long”. It sounds like Iggy Pop got really really drunk on egg nog, stumbled into a college frat house, and through divine inspiration wrote a two and half minute barn burner. You can get the Holy Sh*t It’s Christmas EP here. Merry Christmas Eve!

These guys totally keep the microphone at large! Hailing from Tel Aviv, Israel, Lovegrenade is pure surf pop-punk goodness. Their fantastically raw & genuine self-titled was recorded live and in one sitting. Check it out on their bandcamp page, and keep an eye out for a vinyl pressing in the near future!

Another rockin’ tune from The State Department to kick off your Friday. And if you are in DC check out their show tonight (Friday, October 1) at Rock and Roll Hotel. I believe the band is playing with Middle Distance Runner and The Dance Party, so you better be there! ~

Radical Dads hails from Brooklyn (typical) and brings an aggressive yet charming rock sensibility to their music. The band boasts alumni of other solid indie rockers such as Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Uninhabitable Mansions. Check out their song (and video for) “Recklessness” off their new release Mega Rama. The chorus is catchy as hell and the guitars are loud. This is the kind of song you learn every word to and then rock out in the car while banging on the steering wheel. Enjoy! (PS: I wonder if Cool Dad will like this?)

Remember back in high school when you got grounded and sent to your room for 2 hours with no TV, and the only thing that helped pass the time was kickin’ back and listening to New Found Glory or Sum 41? Maybe that was just me, but it seems that the extremely catchy pop-punk bands were all the rage back at the turn of the millennium. The Thermals have brought the sound back and it is freakin’ great! Check out the video for their single, “I Don’t Believe You,” off their latest album Personal Life. Love the ending to this video! Grab the single on 7″ here.
