Memory Tapes – Graphics single

I just recently got heavy into Dayve Hawk’s work, aka Memory Tapes. His latest album is a slightly dark, dancy-electronic delight titled Seek Magic, released in very limited quantities back in September as an LP. I hopped over to his blog just the other day and grabbed the mp3s from his Graphics single, released November 10th. The single has an edited “Graphics” track on it, and an instrumental track titled “Easy Pert Mom.” If you get a chance, pick up a copy of Seek Magic, it’s fantastic!

Shout Out Louds New Single – Walls

Shout Out Louds will release their latest album Work (which has sort of a Fleetwood Mac-ish album cover in my humble opinion, which is a good sign) on February 23rd, and have offered up a taste of what to expect with a free download on their website of the song “Walls”. And for the die hard fans out there, you’ll find some in-the-studio footage of the group recording the song here.

New Spoon Single – Written In Reverse

Spoon announced “Written In Reverse” as the first single off their upcoming LP, Transference, set to release January 19th. So far only live versions of the song have been scattered across the web (I found this one on Stereogum, who found it on you aint no picasso, who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night). The mix is a little rough on this live version, but you can look forward to the official digital release of this song on December 1st.

Waterlaso – Sensual Predators

Waterlaso has spent the majority of last year writing and recording fresh material and are now set to release its conceptual album Wild. Here’s the first single from the album, titled “Sensual Predators.” The single’s cover matches its sound perfectly – “Adults Only XXX.” It’s gotta really dark and uneasy feeling to it, the perfect soundtrack to a cheap, sleazy strip club. I’m definitely excited to hear the rest of this album. I’ve linked to their website; turns out their trying to raise money to get Wild professionally mastered and pressed. Throw some change their way if you can.

Vampire Weekend – Horchata

Some of you may have heard that Vampire Weekend is set to release their second CD, “Contra,” on January 12, 2010. In preparation for this, the group has uploaded the track, “Horchata,” to their website for streaming and downloading. I find the track similar to musical styles found on the group’s self-titled CD. They are keeping within the catchy style of preppy, joyful, afro-pop inspired indie-rock that they created. However, this time, they have expanded their horizons out of the Northeast region of the United States. It will be interesting to see just how far Vampire Weekend will take us.
