Mausi – “sol.”

A little love for our DC blog broz over at All Things Go. ATG recently launched a record label titled appropriately, ATG Records. Running a label is a tough business, and I give these guys a nod for bringing another label to DC. The Mausi single “sol.” is breezy and cathcy as hell. Grab the 7″ on February 20th, with “sol.” as the A-Side and a Lightwaves remix as the B-Side. Pre-order here.

Black Dice – Pigs (video)

This new video from Brooklyn experimental electronic/punk trio Black Dice is just as colorful and schizophrenic as the track it illustrates. “Pigs” is the first single off the threesome’s forthcoming release, Mr. Impossible, which is slated for a April 10 US release and April 9 international release via Ribbon Music.

The Shins – “Simple Song”

The Shins Simple Song

Stream the new track from indie darlings The Shins. “Simple Song”, off their upcoming album “Port of Morrow”, is an instant gem and proves that singer/writer James Mercer still has what it takes to deliver unique, quirky, and delicious indie-pop. Enjoy!

Expensive Looks – Moving Visions

Expensive Looks Moving Visions

The year just started, and I am already excited for what it has in store for us music nerds. Right now, I am absolutely in love with Alec Feld, aka Expensive Looks, a young producer out of NY who makes self-proclaimed “polar acid garagewave discohouse, bombastic balearic beasts.” After listening to the first single off his forthcoming debut record, Dark Matters, I think that classification is pretty accurate. The record drops January 17th via Group Tightener.

Young Magic – Sparkly (video)

I really wish that Young Magic released its debut album this year, because I can pretty much guarantee it would have made my “Best Of” lists. But alas, the New York-via-Australia three-piece electro collective decided to drop its long-awaited LP in February 2012 via Carpark Records. With two amazing 7″ under its belt, there is not a doubt in my mind this will be a buzzworthy record to ring in the New Year. For now, here’s a mystical video for the just-as-mystical B-side from the “You With Air/Sparkly” single.

Casiokids – Det Haster! (video)

Happy hump day to you all! To help get your mojo risin’, check out the new video from Norway-based electro-pop darlings Casiokids entitled “Det Haster!” (or “It’s Urgent!” for any of you who don’t speak Norwegian). Though the content of the video may not get you in the mood (it portrays some pretty unhealthy relationships between humans and (stuffed) animals), the buoyant synthesizers and smooth vocals of singer and band founder Ketil Kinden Endresen surely will. Check out this, and many other danceable, makeout-able tracks on the band’s recently released LP, Aabenbaringen over aaskammen, or, The Revelation Over the Mountain, via Polyvinyl, which can be purchased here.

Miracle Fortress – Possession (video)

Check out this mundanely beautiful “home video” type music video for “Possession” by Montreal, Canada’s musician/producer Miracle Fortress (aka Graham Van Pelt). This track showcases Van Pelt’s knack for layering instrumentation to create breathtaking shoegaze, indie pop soundscapes and is the first of many “bonus singles,” which were formerly unreleased and written during the time he recorded his sophomore album, Was I The Wave?. If you’re in the New York area and are attending CMJ (I envy you) check out Miracle Fortress on October 20th at Brooklyn’s Public Assembly and the 21st at NYC’s Arlene’s Grocery before he embarks on an European tour through December.
