Miracle Fortress – Possession (video)

Check out this mundanely beautiful “home video” type music video for “Possession” by Montreal, Canada’s musician/producer Miracle Fortress (aka Graham Van Pelt). This track showcases Van Pelt’s knack for layering instrumentation to create breathtaking shoegaze, indie pop soundscapes and is the first of many “bonus singles,” which were formerly unreleased and written during the time he recorded his sophomore album, Was I The Wave?. If you’re in the New York area and are attending CMJ (I envy you) check out Miracle Fortress on October 20th at Brooklyn’s Public Assembly and the 21st at NYC’s Arlene’s Grocery before he embarks on an European tour through December.

Young Magic – “Night in the Ocean/Slip Time”

Young Magic Night in the Ocean/Slip Time

Back in February, Young Magic released its first single, You With Air/Sparkly via Carpark Records, and yesterday, the band released Night in the Ocean/Slip Time, a second 7″ that is just as expansive and breathtaking as the first. Each of these singles is an installment of a grandiose debut LP that is set to be released in 2012 and spans ten countries.

Toro Y Moi – How I Know (video)

I know we’ve already given Toro Y Moi lots of love here at Newdust, but when I saw his latest video for “How I Know,” I couldn’t pass up sharing it with you all. Not only is the track, which is the third single off his February release, Underneath the Pine, instantly catchy, but the video is pure quirky, cheesy bliss.

Fleet Foxes – Grown Oceans (Video)

“Grown Oceans,” the first video from Fleet Foxes‘ upcoming sophomore release, Helplessness Blues, depicts a myriad of candid footage that gave me such a nostalgic, fuzzy, warm feeling, I had to share it with you all right away! The album will be released by Sub Pop on May 3rd, and you can pre-order it here.

The Dodos – Black Night (Video)

Coming off the high of a buzzworthy fourth album release and successful SXSW performances, The Dodos released a video for “Black Night,” the first single off the March 15th released No Color. As with singles of the San Francisco duo’s past, this track showcases dark, fast-paced, folk-inspired guitar strumming and staccato, bass driven percussion, with Meric Long’s deep, wavering vocals tearing through the music. The artsy, noir-esque video illustrates the song beautifully by depicting a gritty basement boxing club match that ends in a raucous. If you like what you see/hear, you can order No Color here.

Blouse – Into Black (video)

I’ve got some more Portland love to share with you all this week. First, meet Blouse, an up-and-coming Portland-based dream pop trio that just signed onto the fabulous Brooklyn label Captured Tracks (hooray!), and now meet Wooden Lens, a crazy-talented group of Portland videographers who create brilliant unofficial music video from found and stock footage. Scenes pulled from Léos Carax’s 1991 film les amants du Pont-Neuf comprise the video for Blouse’s first single (and A-side to the band’s debut 7″) and depict vibrant fireworks, strobe lights, and an eccentric, one-eyed Juliette Binoche that fit the music beautifully.

Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers

Lykke Li I Follow Rivers
Remember Lykke Li? The young Swedish babe is back with a sophomore album, Wounded Rhymes, set to be released in March through her own label, LL Recordings. She unveiled the first single of the LP, “I Follow Rivers”, a few days ago, and it is both surprising and charming as you would expect. Staying true to her eclectic pop/electro/folk style, Lykke Li matches her mysterious, vibrant voice to ethnic rhythms and sweet lyrics, creating a lovely and strangely appealing love song that doesn’t forget to be catchy. Watch out for her forthcoming album, and check out her previous work here.
