So I’m not exactly sure how I came across this band, but upon hearing them I knew they were destined to grace the homepage of Newdust. Unfortunately I have no clue what it is they are saying exactly, but that doesn’t make it any less rad as Josh would say. Originally formed in 1981, Indochine became one of the most successful new wave rock bands in France, with songs like L’Aventurier and Canary Bay. Of the albums that I skimmed through while deciding what song of theirs to post, “Miss Paramount” (off their ‘83 sophomore release Le Péril Jaune) was a clear winner with that easy-to-love surf rock guitar that I’m a complete sucker for.
Now if only Lara would be so kind as to translate this for me, I’d be good to go.

So this is the second week in a row that I’ve posted on a New Zealand band that starts with the word “Glass,” but I swear that’s a complete accident. Must be the new craze over there. But regardless, the four-piece Glass Owls released their much anticipated first EP, Dead Love, back in June to an anxious fan base who have grown fond of the band’s stellar live performances. But does the sound translate well on the record? I haven’t seen them live so I can’t really say, but judging by this 6-track EP there’s a pretty good chance. With vocals that seem to channel Julian Casablancas at times and surf-rock inspired guitar riffs, Dead Love is a solid freshman effort. You can order your copy or download the digital version at their bandcamp page.

Seapony emerged onto the music scene just a couple months ago, and have just as quickly proven to the blogosphere that they’re actually worth remembering. With its nostalgic girl-pop-surf sound, it’s kind of hard not to enjoy their latest single “Dreaming”, the title track off their new 3-track 7″ set to release on Novermber 15th. Swing by the Double Denim Records website to pre-order your copy of Seapony’s Dreaming 7″ now, as it is limited to only 300 copies worldwide.

A while back newdust was introduced to the fuzzy pop jams of Richmond, VA’s Lubec. Well, the band has a great new single, “Cherry Adair” from their upcoming album Nothing is Enough!. The release date is October 9th which also coincides with the launch of the new label The Acme Thunderer. If you can make out to Richmond I am sure it will be a great time. Enjoy!
Remember that post I did on The Balkans way back in the day? Yeah, I can say that now because Newdust has been around for over a year! But enough about us, in the year since we’ve covered The Balkans they’ve continued to deliver us with catchy, fast-pace punk with delightful 60’s surf rock undertones. I haven’t heard a song from them I didn’t like. Here’s a couple videos that were shot by the really cool site Indie ATL.
This surfy band out of Richmond, VA was brought to my attention by a friend a few weeks ago. Lubec combines pop sensibilities with a surf/punk/rock theme. Win! Take a listen to “Your Magic Wand” and “Gang Knife Fight” and you will have visions of riding waves circa 1968. Also, I smell some Weezer/90’s influences in there as well. And… maybe some Morning Benders. Enjoy!

A few weeks ago I did a post on Surfer Blood’s single “Swim” and their great new record Astro Coast. I hope you all are enjoying it as much as I am… Here is the very strange video for “Swim”. Enjoy!
