Plej – Blue

Plej Blue

This song by Swedish duo Plej managed to find its way onto my comp’s music folder unseen. I haven’t a damn clue how it got there! Where did you come from, oh my sweet “Blue?” Your sweet jazzy downtempo vibes and lush electronic overtones have added a much needed soundtrack to my mundane act of dish washing and clothes folding. I….I love you.

NIVA – Feverish Dreams EP

NIVA Feverish Dreams EP

I first discovered NIVA through his brilliant remix of Blackbird Blackbird’s track “Hawaii“. Based in Stockholm, Sweden Christian Niva has actually already released several tracks under the name The Quietboy. Evolving from groovy dance beats to a sun-kissed chill pop not unlike Washed Out or Toro Y Moi, NIVA has just released another great remix of The Concretes‘ song ” All Day“, along with a few tracks from his long-due upcoming EP Feverish Dreams. “The Boy From The Sun” and “Ghost In My Head” pairs NIVA’s ethereal voice with pop echoes, dubstep beats and straight forward synth melodies.

You can check the rest of the Feverish Dreams EP preview and download NIVA’s previous releases for free on bandcamp.

Museum of Bellas Artes – Watch The Glow

Museum of Bellas Artes Watch The Glow

So I’m a good year late on this one, but Stockholm natives Museum of Bellas Artes are definitely worth a post (even if it is a very late one).  We are talking some serious balearic pop here.  Easy and bouncy tunes to cheer you up and make you dance.  Countered with a hint of melancholy behind aerial yet powerful vocals. You might already have heard their delicious jam “Who Do You Love” from last year.  ”Watch The Glow”, the second single from Museum of Bellas Artes, is currently available on Transparent Records.

Their debut EP, Days Ahead, is set for release on 11/15 through Force Majeure. And yes, we’re looking forward to this stunner.

Modual – Promo EP

Modual Promo EP

I’ve been wanting to post on Modual for a good while now,and I honestly couldn’t tell why I never did, because they are two guys you should know about. Anyway, today seems to be the perfect time for some Modual catch-up, as they have released their second EP, Infinity, just a few days ago. As you may already know, Northern Europe is a great place for music experiments these days : well, this Swedish duo is responsible for the invention of a new genre called popstep, no less. So what’s in there? Damn good dubstep beats, drum & bass and a few garage elements, powerful melodies and real pop vocals with melancholic lyrics. I don’t know what it is, but out of this inventive – and perhaps risky – combination comes some kind of a sweet, nostalgic feeling that I’m really digging (the beginning of a new school year getting closer and closer might add up to this, too).

“Deeper Than This” and “Shadows Play” are two tracks from Modual’s first Promo EP, and they do make a great September soundtrack. Enjoy!

The Faux Noise – Save Me (Video)

Save Me from The Faux Noise on Vimeo.
Great Vimeo find from The Faux Noise for the song “Save Me”.  The band hails from Sweden and has a shoegaze-pop sound that is great for those rainy days and/or break up mixtapes.  Also checkout their Soundcloud page for tons of free downloads and remixes.

Lo-fi-fnk – Marchin’ In

Lo fi fnk Marchin In

So I am enduring the snowmeggedon here in DC area.  2 feet of snow in two days… not normal.  Anyways, some good came out of this blizzard because I discovered Lo-Fi-Fnk’s new single “Marchin In”.  It is catchy, funky, and Swedish.  What more could you ask for?  I don’t have many details about the single or whether there is a new LP coming soon.  I do know you can get more info about their 2006 release Boylife here.  Enjoy!
