Slowdive & Washed Out –
Space Around The Feel Station (Violens Remix)

“Astrocat” by Mark Weaver

I came across this great find while perusing my favorite blog, ISO50. It is a mash up by Violens of the 80’s shoegaze band Slowdive’s “Souvlaki Space Station”, and chillwave prodigy Washed Out’s “Feel It All Around”. The mash up can be found on their Summer Mixtape, of which you can download for free on their website, as well as purchase the band’s Acid Reign 7″ that features the song as it’s B-side.

Washed Out / Beach House live @ The Granada 04/21/10

Here’s a plethora of footage from the Washed Out / Beach House show Wednesday night at the Granada Theater in Dallas. This was the first show from their sold out US tour, and it was absolutely incredible. These videos do not do it justice. Ernest Greene (aka Washed Out) opened the show with some familiar songs, and some not so familiar. He did an adaptation of “Hold Out” that wasn’t true to the album version by any means, but amazing nonetheless. Wish he could have played a longer set, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Then came Beach House, and let me just say that Victoria Legrand is one of the most powerful female vocalists around right now, without a doubt. She’s up there with Stevie Nicks. The highlight of the evening was their closing song “10 Mile Stereo”, which I did not bother taping because I was too busy moving. Only a statue could stand still during a Washed Out / Beach House show. Oh and also, many thanks to gorilla vs bear for bringing this show to Dallas. They’ve got some pretty rad photos of the show posted on their homepage right now so check them out.

Games – Everything is Working & Party Planet

To be perfectly honest, I do not really know much about Games.  I know they are from Brooklyn and have released a few mixtapes via their blog.  They have that great chillwave (ugh hate that word, it sounds like some sort of designer drug) sound.  I scored these two tracks and I am pretty sure they are demos so… hopefully more tracks will be released very soon.  Enjoy!

PS:  Rent War Games!

Toro Y Moi – Causers Of This

If you can imagine a mixture of Noah Lennox, Thomas Mars, and maybe even a vague hint of Michael Franks (huh?), then you might have a close resemblance to the vocal stylings of Mr. Chazwick Bundick, aka Toro Y Moi. That combined with music that sounds very much like a mix between Junk Culture and Washed Out, this album makes for a must listen for any fan of the new chillwave takeover. Interestingly enough, Chazwick and Ernest Greene (aka Washed Out) actually formed a close musical relationship late in Chazwick’s school career at the University of South Carolina. What’s great about this album is that he throws in a few instrumental gems here and there as well, one of which is streaming to your right. Causers Of This is Boomkat’s album of the week, and has a release date of February 23rd (today), so check it out!

Washed Out – “New Theory” video

Last week Josh did a post on Washed Out’s Life Of Leisure EP. Here’s a great video by Justin Gaar with Washed Out’s “New Theory,” featuring the king of skate dancing Speedy aka Jeremy.

Washed Out – Life of Leisure EP

FEEL IT ALL AROUND from Northern Lights on Vimeo.

Georgia’s Washed Out recently released a very cool and very chill EP titled Life of Leisure . I personally am a big fan of the EP and every track on it.  The EP has that trendy fuzzy/electronic sound that seems to have taken hold within the electronic movement.  You can here a touch of shoe gaze mixed in there as well.  You can read an interview of Washed Out here.  I posted up my favorite track “New Theory” and you can check the very summer video above for the song “Feel it All Around”.  Enjoy!
