The Beach Boys – Wild Honey

The lesser known Beach Boys’ 13th studio album Wild Honey is loaded with charming, bare-boned soul-pop tunes. “Darlin’,” their biggest hit off of Wild Honey, was the first song from the album that I had heard, off a “greatest hits” record. I immediately went out and bought Wild Honey afterwards. So I decided to start this post off with “Darlin’,” just as I started off my love for Wild Honey :

How badly do you want a beard now after watching that video? I know I want one. Anyways, what I enjoy most about Wild Honey is how extremely simple & genuine the songs are. Brian Wilson actually had little to do with the production of Wild Honey (and the rest of the world, for that matter), which was a first for the band, and the Boys all played their own instruments on the record, something they hadn’t done in almost five years. This album, to me, is equivalent to The Beatles’ Let It Be. Just as Let It Be is greatly different & under-produced amongst other Beatles’ albums, Wild Honey is just as equally unique to The Beach Boys’ catalog, but is definitely a must-have for any Beach Boys lover.
