Thomas Bangalter – Irréversible (soundtrack)

Thomas Bangalter, better known as one half of the French electronic duo powerhouse Daft Punk provided the soundtrack for the controversial mystery/thriller Irréversible (2002).

After listening to this soundtrack all the way through, it’s hard to imagine these songs accompanying a film that’s notorious for its violent & lengthy rape scene. On the other hand, I’m very curious as to how they’ll be used in the film. This soundtrack has all the familiar aspects of what put Daft Punk on top of the electronica/house food chain, but it’s got its dark moments, as well. Though some of the songs might leave you feeling a little uneasy & disturbed, you could still bust this soundtrack out at a dance party & shake it like a polaroid picture. The majority of the songs are much more minimal than your average DP song, but then again, it’s a movie score. Speaking of movie scores, Daft Punk will be composing the soundtrack for the upcoming 2011 sci-fi Tron Legacy, sequel to 1982’s Tron.

Here’s two songs off the score, one of ‘em Daft Punk-y, the other dark & moody.
