| Not to mention of course what she did for electronic music in general. Back in the late 60’s, the now legendary Moog synthesizer was not all that well known until Wendy Carlos brought it into the ear of the public with her 1968 release Switched On Bach where she helped pioneer electronic music by taking classical pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach and turning them into electronic interpretations with her extremely complex Moog setup. She took that style and turned it into original compositions that made the music of A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and of course, Tron, so unique and appealing. History lesson aside: I think it’s safe to say that fans of electronic music have Wendy Carlos to thank. Stepping up to fill her shoes is the one and only Daft Punk, who have taken on the prestigious task of undergoing the soundtrack for the next Tron movie. And it’s no surprise that they too are avid users of Moog synthesizer equipment (click here for a look at Carlos’ Moog setup vs Daft Punk’s). All that being said, below is a sneak peak at Daft Punk’s theme for Tron: Legacy, which was introduced at this years Comic-Con convention as well as a three minute teaser trailer. You’ll also find a Wendy Carlos piece from the original film for an interesting comparison on what we can expect in differences between the two soundtracks.
