Wild Beasts – Two Dancers

Wild Beasts Two Dancers
Wild Beasts Two DancersIt’s hard to describe Wild Beasts. I just can’t quite put my finger on their sound. Their sophomore release, set to hit the shelves here in the States September 8th, is an extremely captivating album. Hayden Thorpe’s voice, in all its falsetto glory, soars like a well-crafted paper airplane. Listen to this album when you’ve got at least 4 hours with nothing to do; chances are, you’ll want to listen to it again and again…and again.

Two Dancers is an album I could see Shakespeare totally getting into. The lyrics are very dramatic & dark, with equally engaging & beautiful instrumentals. The songs are quite theatrical, I can just see lead singer/songwriter Hayden Thorpe holding a human skull & serenading it in song. The music itself has a very unique sound: the precise drumming of Chris Talbot has somewhat of a tribal feel to it that’s accompanied by very quiet (for the most part), resonating bass & guitar lines that work together to create complex rhythms. There are a lot of great instrumental break downs throughout the album. Two Dancers is a lot to take in with just one listen, it’s got quite a few jaw-dropping moments. “The Fun Powder Plot” is track one from Two Dancers, definitely a great song to set the mood for the rest of the album. Also, here is a great video for “Hooting & Howling,” which just happens to be track two:
